About The Event

Capoeira Angola Quintal is honored to support once again 1 Billion Rising acknowledging our sisters through Capoeira. Capoeira is a martial art that combines music and singing, done and created by the African people who were oppressed under the bondage of slavery in Brazil. It was a way to create their own space, expression, believes, wisdom, joy and celebration in the practice of capoeira. it is a way to heal and build strong individuals and communities. In this form we feel profoundly connected to 1 Billion Rising and Eve Ensler's mission.

About The Organization

Afro Brazil Arts

Afro Brazil Arts is a non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire achievement, leadership and community through capoeira made accessible to people of all ages and abilities. ABA operates the New York Capoeira Center and runs the Capoeira Fitness and Leadership Program at local schools.

The head instructor at the New York Capoeira Center and founder of Afro Brazil Arts is Mestre Ombrinho (Master Michael Goldstein). With over 31 years practicing capoeira and over 24 years experience teaching, he is the first North American Capoeira Master and the creator of Mindful Capoeira.
