About The Organization

ACT for Women and Girls

ACT for Women and Girls (ACT) is located in Visalia, California – the epicenter and largest metropolitan area of Tulare County. The mission of ACT is to engage women of all ages in leadership opportunities to promote social and personal change. ACT is the only reproductive justice organization in Tulare County and is a leader in the Central Valley of California. For nearly ten years, ACT has built the power base of marginalized populations and has cultivated a movement of women leaders to address reproductive health issues and rights. ACT calls upon elected and appointed leaders, informs valley residents, and organizes youth to make changes to address reproductive health disparities and policies in the region. Through each action and step, ACT continues to erode the oppression that permeates the valley floor and builds just policies to increase positive health outcomes.

ACT engages youth through three program areas: 1) Our signature eight month leadership program – Female Leadership Academy (FLA) – develops young women leaders to actively engage in the reproductive health and justice movement; 2) ACTion Teams for young women and men to educate their peers on sexual health issues in the community through events, street outreach, and education; and 3) Teen Success, a support group for pregnant and parenting teen moms.
