Even with a well loved, gentle, middle class upbringing, I experienced sudden and unexpected violence from men  since I was 12. An uncle offering to babysit, a stranger passing in the street at dusk, an employer when I was bookkeeping at 16, a husband .. on many occasions. As a 70 year old woman, seeing other women subjected to violence all over the world is heartbreaking. Many men also abhor the violence. Perhaps we can join forces to stop it, though it is hard to imagine how that would be possible.
